Suspicious Fire at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility

On Dec. 29, the Westchester County Fire Cause and Origin Unit contacted the New York State Police in Somers to assist with a suspicious fire investigation at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility. Police said that at about 5:15 p.m., an employee from the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility discovered smoke emanating from the maintenance garage, located on the exterior of the secure portion of the prison property.

Troopers from the State Police barracks in Somers conducted an underage drinking enforcement operation in Northern Westchester County on Friday, April 24. Numerous retail establishments were checked in Somers, Lewisboro, North Salem and Pound Ridge by using an 18-year-old volunteer to attempt to purchase alcohol under the observation of plainclothes investigators supported by uniformed troopers, police said. SOMERS, N.Y. The family of a Somers Eagle Scout candidate is asking for the community's help Saturday as volunteers work to reinstall the Howitzer Cannon at the Ivandell Cemetery.
