Somers Man Drove Drunk In Yorktown With Revoked License, Say Police

A Somers man is facing numerous charges after police said he was speeding and driving drunk early Sunday, April 24. Matthew J. O'Connell, 22, of the hamlet of Shenorock, was arrested in Baldwin Place around 3:30 a.m., police said. However, police said, O'Connell continued on into Somers where he was finally pulled over in a parking lot at Somers Commons, a shopping center in Baldwin Place.

Walk Raises Over $100,000 For Pediatric Cancer Foundation

TV meteorologist Lee Goldberg of Somers was the returning emcee at Sunday's 22nd Annual Hope Walk in Manhattan to support the Mamaroneck-based Pediatric Cancer Foundation. The 5K drew more than 500 walkers to Riverside Park to shine a light on the 12,000 infants and children who are diagnosed with cancer each year.

Alison Macrina, who also is a librarian, is to speak at the library at Route 139 & Reis Park from 6:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 28. Macrina is set to discuss a number of issues, including the increasing amounts of personal information shared with software providers, the increasing influence of mega companies like Google and Facebook, the "overbroad" government surveillance revealed by Edward Snowden, and the information presented online that is discoverable by hackers.
