Man Points Gun At Motorist In North Salem Road Rage Incident, Police Say

New York State Police arrested a 28-year-old man after he allegedly pulled what appeared to be a handgun at another driver during a road rage incident on I-684 in North Salem. Shortly before 8:15 p.m. on Monday, May 8, troopers from the Somers barracks responded to a reported road rage incident that occurred in North Salem.

Flash Flood Warning Now Includes Somers; Parkway Closures Reported

The heavy rain moving through the area has resulted in the closures of stretches of two parkways in the area Friday. A Flash Flood Warning issued for southern portions of the Hudson Valley has been extended to 5 p.m. Friday and now includes all of Westchester County as well as Putnam.

Terrible Year For Ticks, Somers: 'POW' Virus Worse Than Lyme Disease

With the warmer winter leading to a spike in the number of deer ticks this spring and summer, experts are increasing awareness of an increase in the reported cases of a potentially life-threatening virus carried and spread by three types of ticks, including the deer tick that transmits Lyme disease. Powassan, known as "POW," is named after Ontario, Canada town where it was identified in a young boy who eventually died from the virus.

Officer Sentenced For Crash That Killed Somers Teaching Assistant

A retired Carmel police officer was sentenced to a year in jail Wednesday for criminally negligent homicide in the death of a Somers teaching assistant during a 2015 car crash. Richard O'Keefe, 59, of Mahopac, also lost his drivers license for a year and agreed not to reapply for a license for at least a year following his release from jail, according to Putnam County District Attorney Robert Tendy.

Have You Seen Him? Westchester Teen Has Been Missing Since Mid-April

Area law enforcement agencies are seeking the community's assistance in locating a missing Westchester County teenager that has been missing for several weeks. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and New York State Police in Somers have issued a missing person report for 16-year-old Xavier Franz, who was reported missing in on April 12. Franz has been described as an approximately 5-foot 10-inch biracial man, weighing approximately 160 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
