Clerk Charged In Underage Detail That Includes Somers

A store clerk was charged with selling alcohol to a minor in a state police detail Saturday that targeted eight Northern Westchester establishments and two in Mahopac. An employee at the Mobil Mart on 102 Route 6 in Mahopac was charged with prohibited sale of an alcoholic beverage to a person under 21 years old and issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Carmel Court on Nov. 7. State police in Somers conducted the detail in the towns of North Salem, Somers and Carmel.

Carmel Police charged a Mahopac man on Saturday, Oct. 22, with drunk driving with a younger teen in the car following a traffic accident, according to lohud.com. Markham Barry, 18, was traveling on East Lovell Street when he lost control of his car and ran into a stone wall near the border with Somers, said lohud.com.

Somers Eyes First New Firehouse In 50 Years

If all of the pieces fall into place, the Somers Volunteer Fire Department could find itself with a new firehouse after more than 50 years in its current location. Talk about the new firehouse has been going around for a couple of years, but now that the Fire Commission has been able to work out a deal with IBM for a chunk of land on Route 100, all of that talk could become a reality within a year or so if John Markiewicz, chairman of the Somers Board of Fire Commissioners, has his way.
